Our Classes

What is the maximum class size?

We believe that small, focused classes yield the best results for our students. Accordingly, we keep our class maximum to twelve students. The average class size is ten students.

How many classes are included in the course?

Our SAT prep course includes a 4.5-hour diagnostic test, nine 4.5-hour class sessions, two full-length practice tests and eleven extra help and make-up sessions. Class sessions are held from 9a.m. to 2p.m. on Saturdays while extra help and make-up sessions are held from 3p.m. to 8p.m. on Wednesdays. Our entire SAT prep course accounts for twelve total weeks and 40 hours of instruction.

What is a typical day like for a Visionary Minds Academy student?

Each SAT prep session includes three separate classes, one for each section of the SAT exam – critical reading, writing and math. Classes are 90 minutes long and students are allotted a 15-minute break between classes. All students are welcome to bring their own meal or snack. Our full-time instructors keep students mentally engaged throughout the class to provide the most comprehensive and effective SAT preparation.

Can you describe the instructors at Visionary Minds Academy?

Our full-time instructors bring into class all of the elements that help our students succeed. We are brilliant, inspirational, caring, compassionate and funny. Our instructors possess diverse backgrounds, skills and styles but we are all masters of the assigned SAT subject, expertly trained to deliver the most comprehensive SAT prep available. For every question, we not only spot the correct answer immediately, but find common mistakes and offer helpful insights. We are fully prepared to explain everything about the SAT exam in an interesting fashion that makes learning fun. Most importantly, we care about our students and strive to help each one reach their goals.

Is your SAT prep course comprehensive?

Absolutely! We cover all aspects of the SAT exam in detail including some subjects that students may not have learned in high school. Students who participate fully in our SAT prep course will gain a broad knowledge that will enable them to navigate the SAT successfully.

Do you offer extra help sessions?

Yes! Every Wednesday from 3p.m. to 8p.m., Visionary Minds Academy offers extra help at no additional fee to reinforce skills learned in our regular classes. Students also have extensive access to our full-time instructors as we provide contact information during the first class including telephone numbers and email addresses.

Do you offer private tutoring?

No. At Visionary Minds Academy, we find that our approach yields the best results for our students. It would be impractical to cover our 40-hour comprehensive SAT prep course in a one-on-one setting. Please call us to learn more about why our approach promotes the most effective and efficient learning process.

Can I just take the practice test without taking the course?

No. We reserve our practice tests exclusively for Visionary Minds Academy students.

Do you assign homework?

Yes. Each student will complete homework assignments on their home computer using the Visionary Minds test prep software.

How much do you expect a student will improve?

Just like in school, students who attend every class, complete the homework assignments and stay for extra help can expect greater improvements on their scores than students who miss practice tests and never review the course material. It is for this reason that score improvements vary from student to student. In addition, students starting out with a lower SAT score of around 1600 will find it easier to improve than students starting with a higher SAT score of around 2100. A good goal to strive for is a 150-point improvement, although we strongly believe that students who put their utmost into our SAT prep course can exceed this margin significantly.
